Our 3 Year Anniversary in San Francisco

San Francisco was an amazing time. It was nice to get away and enjoy each other for a few days - and I'm sure Henry and Jack loved hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa Petty while we were gone. It's hard to believe it has been 3 years since our wedding day!

Some of the fun things we did in San Francisco:

* We saw "Beach Blanket Babylon" - a famous play in San Fran that has a lot of current events and political satire. It was great! I highly recommend it! This year is the play's 35th anniversary.

* Pier 39 - it was fun to walk around the shops and restaurants near the water. The sea lions were really cool to see.

* Haight/Ashbury District - Hippies! It was fun to see the place where the "Summer of Love" became famous. Still full of great little smoke shops and lots of tie-dyes, you can smell the marijuana smoke often on the street. No worries, man... Make love, not war...

* The Castro - this is the area where Harvey Milk famously fought for equality for gays and lesbians. The movie "MILK" is about his interesting life. The Castro is still the "gay area" in San Francisco. It was pretty crazy! There are men hanging out in the streets with no clothes on! One man told us, "It's just the body. What's the big deal?" We were pretty shocked that people would be completely nude outside for the world to see! Definitely a different world, and a new experience for us.

* We rode the trolley for the first time to the Castro. Thought it would be pretty cool, but it's really just an old-looking train. Saw some interesting characters on it, though...

* Folsom Street Fair - yes, more nudity. It was CRAZY. There were tons of naked, or near-naked people. Lots of people had on insane leather outfits and costumes. Many had their mates on a leash. Some people were tied up and getting whipped. It was outrageous. I kept wondering how many of the people I grew up with, in small-town America, would handle seeing these things. It is just a different way of life - and in San Francisco, anything goes...

* Golden Gate/Alcatraz Cruise - we took a cruise underneath the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz. It was SO foggy and cold. We could hardly even see the bridge, even when we were right under it! Alcatraz was cool to see. I think next time I'd like to actually go into Alcatraz and get a tour. We also went into the Bay Area Aquarium. You'd think it would have been awesome, but the Denver Aquarium is much better.

* Shopping, shopping, and more shopping... San Francisco has some great shopping! Needless to say, we'll be trying to pay off the credit card for a while...

* Oakland Raiders vs. Denver Broncos at Oakland Coliseum. Yes, I'm a Raider fan. Yes, the Raiders are a TERRIBLE team, and this game was no exception to that. It was cool to see the Coliseum, even though it is dirty, full of thugs, and reminds me of a prison! Oh well...

* China Town - we walked through at night, but didn't see it during the day. It is amazing how the Chinese Americans that live here have preserved much of their Chinese culture.

* We ate lots of great, fresh sea food... And Salt Water Taffy. It was awesome!

So, I'd say we experienced quite a bit while we were there. San Francisco is such a "free" city. Everyone is who they are and no one judges them. It is great to see such acceptance, open-mindedness, and tolerance of others and their differences - even if they are naked in the street. We had such a great time together. I love you, babe!
